I barely saw any of the nominated films for this year’s Academy Awards, but it’s always the red carpet that holds the biggest draw for me on Oscar night. From pearly whites to lipstick red, the dresses worn by Hollywood’s darlings competed for my attention. Not to be left out, a few impeccably dressed men made my best dressed list, too.

I have a serious girl crush on Margot Robbie. The romantic draping and sheer sleeves of this black Saint Laurent dress juxtaposed with the edginess of her new ‘do, bright lip and sultry attitude. Statement necklaces were the talk of the night, from Cate Blanchett’s turquoise beauty to Scarlett Johansson’s ultra-edgy look, and the vintage Van Cleef & Arpels necklace worn by Margot fits right in.

Lupita Nyong’o stunned in a custom Calvin Klein Collection gown embellished with some 6,000 natural pearls. The halter neckline actually reminded me initially of Marilyn Monroe’s iconic white dress, though the similarities end there.

Jennifer Hudson wore a Romona Keveza column dress in a beautiful, soft yellow hue. Her hair and makeup completed the winning look for me.

Chrissy Teigen is another recent girl crush of mine, and I absolutely adored her Zuhair Murad look. I love the gentle folds at the top of the super (super) high slit and how the shimmering top seems to rain down onto the waist. I would have preferred a berry lipstick a few shades lighter than this, but judging from her Instagram, it looks like she actually did lighten up her lips once she took her seat in the theater next to hubby and Oscar winner John Legend.

Rita Ora had one of the more dramatic trains trailing behind her on the red carpet this year. This Marchesa gown would be just as at home at the MET Gala, and I love the navy with gold accents and the structured shape.

This Givenchy by Ricardo Tisci dress fit Rosamund Pike perfectly, and the vivid red and tiny details reminded me of a bed of roses. I also like that she took the risk of matching her barely-there heels in red. As NYTimes.com reported, “Her strapless, high-slit gown […] was flattering and memorable.”

For lack of other word, Meryl Streep looked absolutely chic in a Lanvin tuxedo jacket and maxi skirt. The column skirt was slimming, the jacket added a menswear element women don’t often incorporate on the Academy Awards red carpet, and the belt was a perfect touch of glam.

Jennifer Lopez is getting well-deserved attention for looking like a Disney princess in Elie Saab, but I’m placing Jamie Chung in Yanina Couture on my best dressed list in the princess spot. The A-line silhouette is sweet, the sequins are dazzling, but it’s the navy blue that helps make this look pop.

Oprah Winfrey wore a custom Vera Wang dress in a neutral shade that worked beautifully with her complexion. The draping flattered her figure, and the dress had a very whimsical, princess-like feel.

Common wore my favorite menswear look, opting for a velvety Prada tux that he paired with a white bow tie. Chris Evans looked like the perfect dapper gentleman in Gucci, and Michael Keaton looked even more like billionaire royalty than he did as Bruce Wayne (so sad he didn’t take home the Oscar, by the way).

A few more looks I loved: Giuliana Rancic wearing a red short-sleeve Mireille Dagher dress, Jennifer Aniston looking like a sexy disco ball in Versace, Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Zuhair Murad and Reese Witherspoon looking statuesque in Tom Ford.

Who do you agree with? Did you have any favorite looks you think I left out?
