Either I am more in touch with celebrity fashion now than ever before or the sartorial game has truly stepped up this year. And if you doubt for a minute I am bothered, think again. With the start of a new year upon us, I am falling in love all over again as I look back at the best fashion appearances of 2012.
Whether she’s on set for the uber-chic Gossip Girl series, shining on the red carpet or hitting the city streets, Blake Lively is sure to show us a perfect ensemble. The face of Chanel, Blake is truly today’s golden girl. It’s no wonder Christian Louboutin sent her his entire spring shoe collection and Gucci chose her as the face of their new fragrance. Standout accessory: I have to say it—her mile-long, perfectly toned legs! And her long golden mane, of course.

If there is anyone to keep an eye on during red carpet events, it’s Diane Kruger. I would argue this model-turned-actress is the couture queen. At the 2012 Festival de Cannes, she appeared night after night in ethereal, sexy and breathtaking gowns, topping all the best dressed lists. We don’t catch much of her street style, but when we do, Diane looks comfortable in basics and shows us how to wear a hat like a pro. My favorite look: Every single dress at Cannes!

It is hard to believe one year ago I might not have recognized Poppy Delevingne. After pinning countless images of her Fashion Week styles and constantly searching for her next outfit, it might be safe to say Poppy is my girl crush of 2012. Honorable mention to her younger sister, Cara, who won (and seriously deserved—she’s everywhere!) Model of the Year. Standout accessory: Poppy’s bright red pout.

Is 2012 the year of the little sis? Beyoncé is my girl, but Solange Knowles is the gal that makes it to the top of my best dressed list this year. Picking up on one of the hottest trends of the year, Solange grabbed my attention during the Costume Institute Benefit Gala at the Met when she wore a bright yellow peplum dress by Rachel Roy. Standout accessory: Her hair!

Taylor Swift rarely makes the wrong choice on the red carpet, and 2012 proved to be no different. In fact, it is hard for me not to share every single dress she donned. The real pleasure for me was Taylor’s street style. The web has been flooded with images of her retro-inspired daytime attire. My favorite look: The burgundy pants with navy and white polka dot French Connection sweater.

Hollywood brings us a wave of stylish pairs each year: Brad and Angelina or the Olsen twins, for example. But the couple that has turned the sidewalk into their own living catwalk is Johannes Huebl and the ever-chic Olivia Palermo. Whenever the two are spotted, their photo could easily be snapped to use as a magazine ad. They even modeled together in an adorable short film Dancing in the Park. Standout accessory: A tie between Olivia’s fur vests and Johannes shoe collection.

Miranda Kerr has long dominated the runway and, well, lingerie. On top of her career achievements, 2012 has provided the model with enormous street style coverage. Miranda is frequently spotted running errands or hanging with her beau, Orlando Bloom, and their baby while dressed in comfortable basics paired with fun prints and colors. My favorite look: Rocking leather leggings with bright red Isabel Marant sneaks for a casual day out.

Emma Stone is having a huge year as a rising star, both on the screen and in fashion. This is one actress who knows how to mix up her style, whether in a minimalist sheath, skinnies and a classic trench (shown below), or a bold, avant-garde design. My favorite: The short, red Lanvin design she wore to the 2012 Met Gala. It was youthful and fun.

Perhaps taking a cue from his debonair screen role, the newest Bond sure knows how to wear a suit. Daniel Craig never fails to look dapper for his film premieres. But there is something effortless and sexily masculine about his daytime wear, whether jet setting or strolling the streets of his adopted hometown, New York City. Standout accessory: His sunnies.

For my tenth place spot, I have a tie between Alexa Chung and Jessica Biel. Alexa never misses a beat, especially when she is front row during Fashion Week. Jessicia, who married Justin Timberlake in October, never struck me as a fashionista until this year. In 2012, the actress has been the doll of designers from Valentino to Roland Mouret.

Selecting only 10 celebs for my 2012 Best Dressed list is hard work. So many fashionable ladies and dapper men have captivated me throughout the year. But tell me, who would you put in the top 10, and who from this list would you knock out?
