The positive side to snow in April? It’s way more acceptable to break out the thick faux-fur vest than if it was all sunshine and daffodils.

The ’70s are a major source of fashion inspiration right now, and vests lend themselves perfectly to that trend. Alice + Olivia features a few vests in the Fall 2016 Ready-to-Wear collection (I wrote about that here!), and Fashion Month was filled with the decade’s funky styles, patterns and fabrics, from Rodarte to Rebecca Minkoff.

So, instead of rocking my fur with skinnies and pumps (which also looks killer, by the way), I decided to just try it with a slightly flared leg. And it stuck! Wearing a medium-wash flared denim transforms what could be a super-clubby look into something much more casual but still mature.

Fur is glamorous, after all. So finding ways to dress it down, whether that’s over a maxi dress or with lighter jeans and flats, makes your cozy vest a much more accessible layer.
