Sure, there are red carpet events throughout the year, but the Golden Globes are special. They’re the first of my four favorite red carpet events, the others being the Academy Awards, Met Gala and Cannes Film Festival.
The Golden Globes, like the Academy Awards, take haute couture seriously. Two of the night’s winners radiated glamour: Lady Gaga had a Marilyn Monroe moment in Atelier Versace, and Brie Larson shimmered in custom Calvin Klein. Hemlines (usually) meet the floor, wrists are iced, hair is styled to perfection.
A few trends were noticeable at the show. Lots of pastels and nude tones hit the carpet, from Eva Green in Elie Saab to Kate Hudson’s ’90s-reminiscent Michael Kors ensemble. Taraji P. Henson looked fabulous in a white Stella McCartney dress with a killer train. On the other end of the spectrum, Amy Adams was one of a handful of ladies wearing crayola orange (and rocking it, to my surprise).
Brie Larson, Jennifer Lawrence and Louise Roe were among actresses featuring cut-outs. The ultra-deep V-neck was also a huge trend, worn by Jenna Dewan Tatum in Zuhair Murad, Kirsten Dunst in black velvety Valentino, Zendaya and Heidi Klum in Marchesa, Jaimie Alexander in Genny and Taylor Schilling sporting Thakoon (to name a few favorites).
Shout out to the men? Jamie Foxx and Sylvester Stallone succeeded in non-traditional tuxes, and they especially glowed in the presence of their beautiful daughters. And Leonardo DiCaprio, just because I want to say his name. But seriously, he looked like a perfect, Gatsby-approved gentleman.
