What is it about the Met Gala that the celebrity-studded party sneaks up on me every year? I’ll just blame our never-ending winter for not realizing spring has arrived, though according to the calendar it has, and with it one of my favorite red carpet events of the year.
Right now, I’m loving vivid color, unique silhouettes and, as always, a little bit of sparkle. I found plenty of beautiful gowns to fill these categories, but only 10 could make the cut for my best dressed list.
Starting with silhouettes, I fell in love with the many voluminous gowns reminiscent of the classic styles worn by Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. Karolina Kurkova’s deep blue Marchesa makes my list, as does Arizona Muse wearing Ralph & Russo Haute Couture in a radiant shade of red. I was also pleased to see Liu Wen take the red carpet in one of my favorite looks from the Zac Posen fall 2014 collection. Another shout out to Hailee Steinfeld, that little fashionista, in Prabal Gurung.
In other silhouettes, Dita Von Teese rocked her killer body in a mermaid-style Zac Posen dress. Have you seen the Instagram shot of her back side? Meow! Dree Hemingway also won me over in a streamlined, creamsicle-fab Proenza Schouler.
Emmy Rossum was a breath of spring in a yellow-hued, floral Carolina Herrera, and I also loved Olivia Munn in a rich yellow, cleavage-baring Diane Von Furstenburg.
As for the sparkle, the always-gorgeous Jessica Alba joined Munn, Selena Gomez and the designer herself wearing DVF. Blake Lively shined in Gucci Premiere, but we have to give some of the credit to her arm candy and the apple of her eye, Ryan Reynolds.
Rounding out my favorites are Leighton Meester, who looked so effortlessly cool and boho-glam in Emilio Pucci, Karlie Kloss wearing Oscar de la Renta (as did a handful of other stars, like Sarah Jessica Parker), and Suki Waterhouse in a cascading Burberry Prorsum.
With so many amazing looks, it is hard to narrow down my absolute favorites. But here they are, my 10 best dressed at the 2014 Met Gala. Who made your list?

OK, some of those dresses just don’t do it for me.

Which do you like and which don’t you? Let me guess: you hate the strapless ones 😉
