When both my mom and best friend called me out for my nautical obsession, I knew it was true. I’m naturally drawn to horizontal stripes, and if uncontrolled, the style might take over my wardrobe.

Stripes can be both casual and sophisticated, making them a versatile option when a quick go-to ensemble is needed. As the temperature drops, I find myself more included to layer up, especially with an oversize sweater.

While I love borrowing (and never returning) large knits from my dad’s closet, I felt like I hit the jackpot with this navy and cream find. I already have two striped shirts hanging in my closet (also from H&M, hmm…), but I was instantly won over by the leather shoulder detail and legging-appropriate length.

When I came across a pair of patchwork leggings at Zara — half leather, half blue suede — I knew I had an outfit.

To dress up the neutral combination and add a splash of color, I swiped on my favorite shade of Revlon, Wild Orchid. Shout out to “Radiant Orchid,” the 2014 Pantone color of the year!

With the snow piling up in the days to come, I might have to trade the Vince Camuto booties for black knee-high boots. How do you like to wear your stripes?
